چکیده

We study the dynamics of a heavy particle of mass M moving in a one-dimensional repulsively interacting Fermi gas. The Fermi gas is described using the Luttinger model and bosonization. By transforming to a frame comoving with the heavy particle, we map the model onto a generalized ‘‘quantum impurity problem.’’ A renormalization-group calculation reveals a crossover from strong to weak coupling upon scaling down in temperature. Above the crossover temperature scale T*5(m/M )EF , the particle’s mobility m is found to be ~roughly! temperature independent and proportional to the dimensionless conductance g , characterizing the one-dimensional Luttinger liquid. Here m(!M ) is the fermion mass, and EF the Fermi energy. Below T*, in the weak-coupling regime, the mobility grows and diverges as m(T);T in the T→0 limit.

Luttinger-liquid universality in the time evolution after an interaction quench.

We provide evidence that the relaxation dynamics of one-dimensional, metallic Fermi systems resulting out of an abrupt amplitude change of the two-particle interaction has aspects which are universal in the Luttinger liquid sense: the leading long-time behavior of certain observables is described by universal functions of the equilibrium Luttinger liquid parameter and the renormalized velocity....

Numerical Investigation of the Influence of Sand Particle Concentration on Long Radius Elbow Erosion for Liquid-Solid Flow

Erosion caused by sand transportation in flow changing devices is a serious concern in the hydrocarbon and mineral processing industry, which entail to failure and malfunction of flow devices. In this study, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with discrete phase models (DPM) were employed for analysis of carbon steel long radius 90-Degree elbow erosion due to the sand concentration of 2, 5 and ...

Diffusive Dynamicsof Binary Lennard-Jones Liquid in the Presence of Gold Nanoparticle: A Mode Coupling Theory Analysis

Molecular dynamics simulation has been performed to analyze the effect of the presence of gold nanoparticle on dynamics of Kob-Anderson binary Lennard-Jones (BLJ) mixture upon supercooling within the framework of the mode coupling theory of the dynamic glass transition. The presence of gold nanoparticle has a direct effect on the liquid structure and causes the peaks of the radial distribution ...

One-dimensional Fermi liquids

We review the progress in the theory of one-dimensional (1D) Fermi liquids which has occurred over the past decade. The usual Fermi liquid theory based on a quasi-particle picture, breaks down in one dimension because of the Peierls divergence in the particlehole bubble producing anomalous dimensions of operators, and because of charge-spin separation. Both are related to the importance of scat...

2 N ov 2 00 6 Colloquium : The spin - incoherent Luttinger liquid

In contrast to the well known Fermi liquid theory of three dimensions, interacting one-dimensional and quasi one-dimensional systems of fermions are described at low energy by an effective theory known as Luttinger liquid theory. This theory is expressed in terms of collective many-body excitations that show exotic behavior such as spin-charge separation. Luttinger liquid theory is commonly app...
